Hours Used minus Hours Allotted

Hello:
I have figured out how to add hours, but how can I substract hours
Used from hours allotted? For instance, if a task took 4:15 hours to
complete but was allotted 6 hours to complete, how can I create a
column to calculate how many hours were utilized and how many were
banked?

Hi Renay -

There must be more to your question than what you've actually asked

If A1 contains the Allotted 6:00 and B1 contains the Actual 4:15, and the
cell are formatted as time (h:mm) the difference would be calculated in C1
simply as: =A1-B1

The result (which I assume is "Banked") would be 1:45

Bob,
It SHOULD be as simple as that, but for some reason my computer keeps
adding up the total as 19:45. I don't understand what's going on with
it.

As you point out, this makes no sense. I've tried every combination of
formatting & typographical error I can think of and cannot force 6:00 - 4:15
to render 19:45, nor can I think of any mathematical explanation... Of
course I'm no Einstein, either

What if you generate a new blank workbook & test this simple calculation
there? Perhaps the result will provide some insight as to what's going on.
Hopefully one of the numbers guys will pick up on this thread as well.
