How 2 install Visio 2000 (upgrade) on Windows XP Pro. Have 5.0!

I bought a new computer since my old Pentium Chip was getting to hot and
causing problems. I am reinstalling all the software from my old hard drive
to my new computer. Problem: I have Visio 2000 (Upgrade Edition) and I have
the old Visio 5.0 version Standard. Visio 5.0 will not reinstall on my
Windows XP Pro which will then let me upgrade to my Visio 2000 (Upgrade
Edition). It says it can't find my Visio 5.0. How do I install Visio 2000
on Windows XP Pro without my Visio 5.0 first?

visio 5 will install on xp pro, just ignore the message. then continue with
your upgrade.

Al, I did ignore the message and installed 5.0 but Visio 2000 didn't
recognize it when I subsequently tried to install it! Any thoughts? Thanks!

sorry, I don't know why v2000 isn't recognizing it. One of the challanges
with xp-pro is that a number of dll's which were common in win98 are not
installed (although they are not incompatible) with xp. this makes
installation of 'legacy' applications very tentative unless the user is
willing to do some serious digging among old packages.
