How 2 print 17 x 8.5" paper?

Printers are on 8.5 x 11 default. We've tried setting to 8.5 x 14,17,18 &
20" but the print view and printing always defaults back to the 8.5 x 11.
How can I set to print 8.5 x 17. Our printers under properties show "letter"
greyed out. Thank you.

The paper size for a given document is set in Page Setup. You can only setup
page sizes that the current printer driver will allow.
If the printer driver does not allow 8.5" x 17" then you can use the next
larger standard size eg US B 11"x17" and lose the extra 2.5" in the right
hand margin.

Still need help. Graham Mayor's reply was most thoughtful and helpful; yet
unresolved. Stupid me does not know how to determine what printer driver
that i have. And the 11" x 17" option is not offered by my Cannon 4400. I
tried to set up 11 x 17 in the custom option. But it degaulted back to the
8.5 x 11"

If it is a driver limitation, can the driver be downloaded from somewhere and
installed?

Thank you.

Joe,

PS I'm confused how to rate my appreciation for the reply.

I installed the Canon driver and it does not offer any paper size larger
than Legal, and it will not allow custom paper sizes larger than this. Even
if you tell the page setup to ignore the margin error, it will still not
display a larger page size than Legal. I don't have a Canon 4400 so I cannot
tell you whether it is possible to work around the problem.

This is not attributable to Word but to Canon. You need to take it up with
Canon.

My guess would be that the printer is not designed to print anything larger
than legal paper, so there's no way to get around the length restriction
just by reducing the width.

Agreed - at least with the driver installed by Windows XP.
