How are the syllables counted for make the Flesch Readability Sco.

I am carrying out research into readability tools and find that different
software produces a different Flesch Readability Score. I think the main
reason may be to do with the syllable count. Does anyone know how microsoft
counts the syllables for this formula? I know some programmes have
substituted this for vowel counts.
