With Entourage 2004, there is no fixed size limit that you're bound to
encounter. I've found that medium-sized databases seem to work well in
Entourage 2004, compared to delays I saw with larger databases in Entourage
X.
I do the same and have a similar sized database (around 3.6gb). As long as I
keep my regularly used mail folders below about 5000 mails things are
responsive enough. Some of the archive folders have tens (or even hundreds)
of thousand emails in them, and they can be a little slow to open or sort.
