how can a i set up a webdav folder for MS Word and use sub docs?

I would like to use a WebDAV publishing folder for MS Word 2003. I would like
many for many users to be able to edit the same master document and give them
the ability to add sub documents to that master document. Currently i'm
getting file permission errors or application file locking errors. Please
help. what is the best way to do this? Thanks.
