how can I access a word pad atachment in an email

I have received an atachment in an email that is a wordpad attachment.Can I
access it anyway.Message box keeps coming up saying>>> cannot load wordfor
windows6.0 files. I am using windows xp aol 9.0 and have microsoft works.

You should be able to read WordPad documents with the free WordPad accessory
that comes with Windows, but it may be that you have an older version of
Windows that consequently has an older version of WordPad, so if WordPad
can't read the files, then the Word Viewer can. The viewer allows you to
read and print (but not edit) files from any version of Word through Word
2203, and this would include Word 6.0.
