It's the opposite of Backgate. You'll find it in the front.

Hi Stan,

You've been told wrong. If you want to use SharePoint features in FP 2003
you need SharePoint. Otherwise, you don't. In other words, FrontPage 2003 is
a stand-alone product, which has expanded its capabilities to include
support for SharePoint, as well as ASP.Net and several other things.

More specifically, I was told that if I upgrade my FP2000 to FP2003
that I would not be able to use it to continue developing my
discussion web without SharePoint. That the discussion web requires
SharePoint because FP2003 does not have/need extensions. Was that
wrong.

presuming you mean frontPAGE not frontGATE, then just buy Frontpage and install
it.

Frontpage is a standalone product - except for the very highest versions of
office - Office Premium and up does not come with Office Professional or Small
Business Edition etc.

Stan,

There are two discussion webs, the one you currently use that requires the FP extensions, and then
there is a new one based on Windows SharePoint Services.

If you are happy with FP2000, there is really not need to upgrade unless you plan to use the new
features.

Will FP2003 support the kind of discussion web that requires FP
extensions?

Also, is SharePoint a program? What does it do? How is it used? What
does it cost to buy SharePoint? Will my current web convert to a
SharePoint basis?

Stan,

FP2003 will support either. However in order to use the SharePoint one, the remote server must be
Windows 2003, and the host must have installed Windows SharePoint Services. When you work with
Windows SharePoint Services, you are working directly on the remote server via FP, as most content
in a SharePoint web is stored in MS SQL server.

There is nothing for your to buy regarding SharePoint Services, unless you want to run it locally,
then you would have to purchase Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition.

For info about WSS, see:
