How can I apply the same text box properties to a linked set

I have a book which was imported into publisher from word. First let me
compliment the design team on the capabilities of the import for both text
and styles. I'm happy with what I have--mostly.

Now for the problems. Once I got the appropriate fonts installed (the
original came from a different machine) and then re-imported styles from the
original document to refresh the fonts, the new publication started to look a
lot like the original. However the text boxes came in at a different size
than the original. I laid out the new publication with my desired page setup
- 1/2 letter booklet with top, bottom and outside margins set to 0.85",
inside margin at 1.1" - but the text frames are smaller and are not placed on
the layout guides.

I know how to fix these one at a time. However, I haven't found the magic
formula to set all the frames to the appropriate size and position. With 202
pages in the document, it's time-consuming to adjust them individually, and
mistakes are likely to creep in. It complicates things that the position is
separate for right pages and left pages.

Help! Please!

Setup your booklet with your preferred margins, insert a text box on the first
page. In a separate publication import the Word document. Select all, copy/paste
to the text box in your booklet publication. Publisher will ask about adding
pages, click yes.

I rated this as "did not answer the question", but I meant "answered the
question but suggested method didn't work."

Your suggestion did, however, lead me to solve my problem myself. Here's
what I did.

I setup the new booklet as you suggested. I didn't quite trust it to do
everything right from just one text box, so I created one on each of the four
pages and linked them. They were, however, all blank.

BTW I made sure to check the box on the first tab of text box properties so
that the settings would be used for new text boxes. That was missing from
your procedure.

Then (here's where your method failed) I went to the first .pub version,
where I'd imported the whole thing, went to the first page and did a select
all/copy, switched back to the new file and pasted into the first text box.
Unfortunately, only the first page came across. I know that in Publisher
2000, which I used frequently in the past, select all would select the whole
story. In 2007, it selects only what's in the current text box. I couldn't
find any configuration options to change this.

So I said to myself, what shall I do with this nice new file that has no
text. I decided to import first the styles, then the text from the original
Word document. This worked much better than the first time.

Thank you very much for your reply and I hope my 'vote' didn't have any
significant effect on your 'expert' standing.

The basic problem we meet here is you did not specify what version of Publisher
you were using. It helps to know the version.

I can insert one text box in the booklet setup and Publisher will add pages and
text boxes. There is no need to link pages first. The procedure I gave you
worked for me, all the formatting was retained with your specified margins. When
you select all in 2007, all is selected. You just have to be certain your cursor
is in the text box.

I should have mentioned that I downloaded the Beta2 software yesterday in
order to solve a problem printing the book directly from Word or as a PDF. I
had tried to import into Publisher 2000 previously but all my formatting was
lost.

Following up on the operation of 'select all': It turns out that sometimes
select all gets the whole story, and sometimes it gets only the current text
box. I haven't figured out how to force it to do one or the other. I'm using
'select all' with great caution at the moment - and thank God for 'undo'!
