How can I assign changes to a drawing to a special layer?

I have an architectural drawing of a home that will be remodeled. Is there a
way to assign all changes to a special layer so I can see them either with
the original drawing or on a stand-alone basis?

Go to (toolbar)>View>Layer Properties. There you may define your special
layers and attributes. Then, right click your objects and select
Format>Layers. Assign the object to the desired layer.

Oh, you can set the special layer to active and new shapes you draw will
automatically be placed on that layer.
