How can I cancel an Update that keeps failing on install

Upon getting promted to check for UPDATES, this "Service Pack 1" was chosen
and I chose to download. HOWEVER, it always fails to install. and won't give
up trying. Is there anyway that I can stop it or delete it? It's really
messing up my computer.

As far as i know there is no way to stop the computer from promting you to
download a critical update but if you are facing problems installing the

I went to www.download.com, searched for office 2003, found the service pack
there in a single 49 meg file. I downloaded the file, put my Office 2003
disk in the appropriate drive, started the installation program. When I
returned 10 minutes later, it was done! And that's after trying to use the
update webpage repeatedly without success!
