How can I change mp3 files to .mid (midi files) so NS and Mac can hear
the tunes in my web site created in MS FrontPage2003?

I must have some program on my computer that can do this.

Thanks in advance,

LC

Your going to have to find a music editor program that speaks both Mp3 and
Midi. Load the Mp3 file and then use "save as" to convert the format.

Might try: http://www.downloads.com or http://www.tu-cows.com as possible
sources of free editors.

Thank you. Sorry I didn't see your reply until now.

When you say, "load" the Mp3 file, do you mean let it play through once?

I think he means "load" mp3 into audio program and re-save as midi file.
However, I'm not aware of any program that can do this. Any such program
would have to identify each musical instrument and convert them to midi
format. And vocals would be impossible. I don't see how this can be done.
However, midi files can be converted to wav files.

So, do I need an audio program to do that too?

Are you asking "do I need an audio program to convert midi to wav"?
Well, yes you do. I don't have any software currently on my computer that
does this but used to. I think Cakewalk will do this. It's been a while. I
just checked and the free "audacity" will not handle midi files. So if you
NOW want to convert in the other direction you'll have to google around. Not
sure if you'll find free stuff.
If you think about it it's easy to see how you can go from midi to wav.
Basically your computer plays the midi sound and recorder software records
that "sound" to a wav file.

I was, but as I re-read my post, I didn't need to ask that. Sorry.

I have mp3 files that I thought would be possible to convert to midi.

I have about 17 mp3 instrumental files that I was hoping to convert to
midi to be used in a reunion web site, so that Mac and Netscape folks
can hear the music.

Try searching for "midi songtitle". You may find midi versions of the songs.
Some will be better than others. Keep in mind that midi music can sound
pretty rinky-dink on some computers. Personally, I leave a website as soon
as I hear music... especially midi music. I recommend you give the person
viewing your site the option of playing the music.

Yes, I would like to provide the option, but using FrontPage 2003, I
don't know how to do that. I can embed music, but don't know how to
start it or stop it.

are you saying Netscape and Mac users cannot play mp3??

Yes, in the sense that they cannot from a web site created in
FrontPage2003. My experience. Looking for remedy.

P.S. I included each file on a separate page in the Page Properties
area for that purpose.
