How can I control directory browse window format?

When I get the browsing window to "save as" or "open" etc. I almost always
want it to show the contents of the directory in "detail" view and sort them
by name. Word almost never does this. I usually get "List" view and have no
idea how they are sorted, all jumbled up.

How can I get Word to default to the view and sort I want?

Word normally opens with the view you last used.
