How can I convert my text to paths for use on laser engravers?

Everyone,

I am creating images and text in Visio and would like to use send them to a
laser engraver as vector graphics. I'm pretty sure that the shapes come out
as vectors, but maybe not.

Has anyone been doing this?

Visio supports exporting svg (scaleable vector graphics), emf (enhanced
metafile), and wmf (windows metafile).

I think your answer helps some. Do you know specifically if the text is
converted to paths when a Visio dwg is saved in one of these formats?

at least with the svg format I believe it is not, since I forward these to
other users over the network and they do not have access to local (my)
resources.
