Subtasks and split tasks are two different things. A split task is a
tasks that starts, progresses for a while, then is interupted for a
time, then resumes. You split the tasks easiest by using the taskp
split tool on the tool bar, clicking the button then positioning the
mouse in the task bar on the Gantt chart at the point where you want the
split to occur, then dragging to where you cant the task to resume.
You'll notice that the task's duration doesn't change even though the
elapsed time does change. That's because the split is like a holiday
for the task - it's non-working time and so doesn't count in the
duration measurement.
To create subtasks, enter both the "parent task" and the sub-task(s) in
order as usual. Select all the subtasks and click the right pointing
green arrowhead at the left-hand end of the formatting toolbar. All the
subtasks will be indented with their parent becoming a summary task.
