How can I create reports to be viewed in a Sharepoint team site?

Hi there,

I'd like to know how to create reports that can be viewed within a
sharepoint team site. Is there some sort of reporting tool available where I
can customise a report, create the necessary SQL queries, and then publish
that to a site, or do I need to create my own web part components in .NET and
then publish those to a site?
