How can I create visio diagram using XML (the diagram itself)?

I have a lot of information showing dependencies between steps within a
spreadsheet. I would like to represent the information graphically. I can
create XML if I know the proper format needed.

I want simple boxes and arrow lines between the boxes.

How do I go about doing that? I'm not looking for the specific generating
code -- I'm looking for the XML spec.

I would then create a simple diagram such as you are looking for and export
it as xml to see how it was saved.
