How can I customize the Project ID field?

I need to customize the Project ID field in order to add a two character alpha to the numeric ID. The two character qualifer will be different depending on the group who owns the work. I have not found a way to do it. Can someone help?

You can't customize the built-in ID. Try using a custom field - sounds like
a text field would be your best bet.

Be careful - if you insert, delete or move tasks, the IDs can change.

Hi Kathy.

You will need to do this in a custom text field. For example, suppose Text1
contains Responsible Group"... then you can make a formula in Text2 that is
[Text1]+[UniqueID]

Read Mike's post, the TaskID can change, the UniqueID will not. But if you
are OK with that, then Text2=[Text1]+[ID]
