how can i customize the way entourage looks?

hello everyone,

i like entourage (and since i use a hotmail address on my os x mac, i
don't think i have any other choice anyway) but i hate the look of the
program. is there any possibility to have a text-only toolbar or to
change those candy-colored icons into something a little more
discreet-looking?
internet explorer has different "themes" to suit what the rest of your
system looks like, but I haven't found this feature in office x.

how can i customize the way entourage looks? (and the other office x
apps too, actually)

thanks!

You can customise which toolbars are showing in word and excel (as well as
which buttons are on each toolbar), but not in Entourage. All you can do
here is to turn off the totolbars (In general prefs), and to use small
buttons for the main areas of the display.

You can send feedback to the developers on this issue. Use the last menu
item under the 'Help' menu - "Send Feedback on Entourage". This message will
go directly to the developers. The more people that request this feature the
more likely it is to be implemented.

While not officially sanctioned, you can use a resource editor to change or
even remove the images that make up Entourage's UI. You'll need a resource
editor such as ResFool. The files you want to look at are the Entourage app,
and the Microsoft Framework X library in the Office folder. Remember, always
operate on a copy of the file in case you break it.

Entity MD spoke thus:
i hate the look of the program.
Me too. The whiteness of it is blinding. This is the only application I use
that is perpetually blindingly white. When it really hurts my eyes I turn on
Reverse Screen so I can read it in white on black.

Now you know why I have selectable stylesheets on my website. Too bad
Entourage can't be hacked in this way.

thanks for the suggestions everyone. i guess i just have to get used
to the way entourage looks for now.

after using it for a day or three, i have one more question:

although it may not be good style, i like to type my email messages in
lowercase, as you can see.
entourage keeps correcting this for me, turning the first letters in a
sentence into capitals. is there a way to switch this autoformatting
off?

thanks!

Well, you can set Entourage so that it does not correct your typing. In the
"Tools" menu, you'll find the "Autocorrect..." item, and there you can
change the default settings.

But, if you want my advice, you'd better keep it as is, in order to leave
your messages more readable (if this is what they're aimed at) ;-)
