How can I decrease the size of my Project Plan?

I have a Project Plan with about 12,000 tasks and the '.mpp' file is now
84megs, 15 megs zipped. A lot of my staff that needs to look at this project
plan are on VPN and cannot download the file due to it's size. What would be
causing this project plan to be so large? And is there anything I can do to
decrease the size? I'm not sure where to start. I've had plans with a lot
more tasks before, but their size wasn't anywhere near this large. Any help
would be greatly appreciated.
