The updates through http://officeupdate.com are intended to
keep the entire purchased Office product complete and current,
not just the presently selected features/subset.

French, English and Spanish proofing tools are included
in the Office XP and 2003 product CDs.

To 'hide' any of the recommended updates you can use
http://update.microsoft.com which provides both Windows and
Office XP/2003 updates, rather than http://officeupdate.com

Some Office, but not all, Office addons and updates will
have a listing in Add/Remove Programs in the Windows Control
Panel. For those that do not, uninstalling the product, restart
and then install would be one method to do this. In the case
of the French language update it doesn't activate the French
language features, it only makes the features in Microsoft Office
listing in Add/Remove Programs available if you choose to turn
them on.
