How can I disable automatic deletion of invitations?

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel
Email Client: Exchange

When I accept a meeting request, that request is moved to the deleted file. I want to keep the invitation in my IN box until I am ready to trash it. If this change was intentional, they should have provided an option to set it to the previous version state. It's a nuisance to have to go and drag the item out of the trash and put it back into my IN folder

This is a default behaviour of an exchange client. Entourage 2004 was not
doing it and they fixed this in Entourage 2008. Its not Entourage its the
Exchange server who is doing this.

It's NOT a "fix" when they modify the program to behave in a negative manner. If they "fixed" Entourage, then it IS Entourage that is doing it. As I do not want my meeting invitations trashed until I want to trash them, The change is a poor move.

Where ever the action is being controlled, it needs to be addressed. Just as being able to accept meetings, accept them tentatively, or decline them, and provide for the option to change that decision later is available, the decision to keep or trash meeting invitations should ALSO be up to the individual and not be assumed.

Actually, that is not correct (Exchange has nothing to do with it-- it happens even if you don't use an Exchange serve). Entourage deletes the message because all the invitation information (including any notes) is transferred to the Calendar, and some genius at M'soft assumed that everyone uses Entourage all the time, thus rendering the original invitation redundant.

I, for one, access my IMAP account from other computers (Mac and PC) that do not use Entourage-- webmail, for instance-- so this "feature" is a show-stopper for me. I *need* that original message left in the inbox.

The problem is that even when I manually move the original email back to my inbox it sometimes gets moved back to the trash whenever a changed invitation arrives.

I complained about this to M'soft using the feedback feature. Until they fix it I'll continue using Apple Mail and iCal.
