how can I display --> in word?

I used to be able to type --> and a solid line arrow would appear. This no
longer happens. What do I have to do to restore this feature in Word?

This was provided by an AutoCorrect entry. The symbol used is character 224
in the Wingdings font if you want to recreate the AutoCorrect entry.
