How can I do quick data entry into Outlook 2007 Contacts?

I have hundreds of Contacts. I want to populate a field for each Contact
which is now empty. I have started using User Field 1 for this purpose.

What I would like to do is open the first Contact, Mr. Jones, add a "YES" in
his User Field 1, and then have the next contact, Ms. Smith automatically
open up with her User Field 1 open so I could then enter "NO" in her User
Field 1. In other words I want to enter data into Contact fields as quickly
as I can enter data into EXCEL cells. However, I find that I when enter
"YES," in User Field 1 for Mr. Jones and use "Save/Next," although Ms.
Smith's Contact opens, I then need several keystrokes to get to her User
Field 1, enter the data, and continue with each Outlook Contact taking much
time to get to the User Field 1 where I can enter the data for that Contact.

Is there a way to speed this process? I would be open to using another
Outlook field besides User Field 1 for the data if necessary. I will
appreciate advice.

Create a custom view of the contact folder with just the fields you need and
update the field(s) similar to Excel worksheet format.

Dear Mr. Timmerman:

I am already using a "custom view with just the fields" I need. This does
not allow the kind of quick data entry that EXCEL would.

Evidently I didn't/don't understand what you are asking. A customized <Phone
List> view, as but one example, allows you to edit any read/write field
included in the view (including User1) for the selected contacts moving in
any direction (up/down/left/right) within the displayed rows/fields without
having to use Save/Next etc. That is what I assumed you were referring to in
terms of "similar to Excel worksheet format".

Hopefully someone else will know exactly what you mean and are looking for
given the description of "as quickly as I can enter data into EXCEL cells".
There certainly will be an issue if the requirement is that each individual
contact must be "opened" first for reasons that were not explained in your
original post. Additionally, the presumption is that you are not using a
custom form whereby the only way to get to any other field not included in
the standard contact "form" is to go to "All Fields" and update the field
there. Further presume that it is these steps that you are trying to avoid
to update any given specific field (such as User Field 1).

Karl is entirely correct. Any table view of Contacts will provide this
ability as long as in cell editing is enabled. OP has provided no
information as to why he cannot do what Outlook permits. OP needs to post
more complete information.
