How can I draw lines on a screen capture to make a diagram?

I pasted a screen capture into Word and I need to draw lines to explain what
different dates mean. How can I create that type of diagram with my screen
capture?

Use the line or arrow buttons on the drawing toolbar (View>Toolbars>Drawing)

Just to extend on Doug's suggestion, once you add your own stuff, select
that & the screenshot, then use the Drawing Toolbar's Group command to avoid
disrupting their positioning relative to one another.
