I use Word Perfect at work and I insert the file name at the end of
documents. Since the file and pathname are at the end of the documnet I can
find it easily. I would like to do the same with Microsoft but HOW?
Thank you.

Hi Gordon,
Thank you. I want to set up the entry of the path & file name automatically.
It is too much trouble going through Header & Footer & it keeps going to the
Header.
I need a bit more help. Thank you. Pallas Mor

You can do it one of 2 ways: Insert a field at the end of your text or
insert the filename in the footer of the document.

At the end of your document:
Insert menu - Field - Choose 'FileName' from the field names: list
you can select the format you would like to have it displayed as
Place a check in the Add Path to filename if you want to see the path also.

To insert filename into the footer:
From the View Menu - select Header and Footer
Scroll the document down to see the footer
Click the Insert Autotext on the Footer toolbar then select either filename
or filename and path. This will show up at the bottom of all pages. You can
set it up to not show on the first page in the File menu - Page Setup -
Headers and Footers Section (Layout tab) Check Different first page then do
the steps above.

(in either case: to manually update the field if you change the filename -
right click the field and choose Update Field from the popup menu) You can
also set fields to update everytime you print under the Tools menu - Options
- Print Tab

Open your template and modify the header and footer there. Save the template
and it will affect all documents.
Or record your keystrokes, save it as a macro and assign a keystroke combo
to it.

View | Header and Footer

A wizard pops up - when you move your mouse across the icons, a description
of what that icon does is displayed

Find the icon that says "Switch Between Header and Footer"

Click on that icon - you jump to the footer

On the left of the wizard is a button labeled "Insert Auto Text"

Click on that button

Click on "Filename"

Close the wizard
