How can I fix "The memory could not be"read" - in a Word 2000 doc

I created a large Word 2000 document that got corrupted. As soon as I open
it I receive the following error message:

The instruction at "0x30a917b1" referenced memory at "0x00000581". The
memory could not be "read".

How can I fix this if I can't even open the document.
