How can I get rid of extra hidden characters?

I am seeing a small box in front of most every line in the master
document view. This extra character is screwing up the appearance of
the document after it is sent by FTP to another PC in WORD. How can I
program in VB a way to purge hidden or invisible characters?

Hi Douglas:

Tell your customer to turn off his Show/Hide button :)

The extra character is a flag to show that the paragraph has some text flow
override properties set (keep with next or page break before). It won't
print, and the user has the option to turn it on or off.

Cheers

Thanks John,
The extra character does show when they open the document in WORD. If
I first open the document in BBedit and "Zap Gremlins" which removes
hidden characters and non ASCII characters, there is no problem either
viewing or printing the document at the other end. Is there a way to
"Zap" the gremlins in Word 2004?

Sorry Douglas:

I wasn't clear. The thing they are seeing is a "Flag". It's a display
artefact, not a character: it's not even in the document file at all. YOU
can't "remove" it, because it doesn't exist :)

However, THEY can make it disappear by setting their display to not show it.

In Master Document view, there is an extra flag appears showing that the
text following it is in a subdocument, as well as the flag that shows that a
given paragraph has a text flow override applied.

Both will go away if they view the document in Print Layout View with
Show/Hide turned off.

Hope this helps
