How can I influence the naming of graphic files Publisher creates

T

Whenever I embed or link a picture and select "publish to the web" Publisher
creates copies of these files with non-descriptive names instead of using the
original files. E.g. "image4741.gif"
The website generated by Publisher is pretty static but the embedded bitmaps
have to be automatically changed every hour or so.
I therefore would like to "hardcode" these filenames so they don't change
whenever the Publisher project changes and to make them more descriptive.
Is there any way to accomplish this?

The two links given above provide documents which point out the large
amount of redundancy (waste) with duplicated embedded images.

I want to point out this redundancy can be eliminated using linked
files instead of embedded files. You are given this option while
inserting picture files. Publisher does not make redundant image files
from duplicate linked files.

This doesn't solve the question of this thread, but it's an important
distinction which I've not seen stated elsewhere. And with the lack of
redundancy, it's perhaps a little easier to track a single image file
name for your purposes without the HTML code fragment.

Of course the code fragment is still the best option until Microsoft
deigns to install into Publisher one of the most frequently asked-about
features besides opening a new link window and total control over page
names. Why they don't do these few simple and popular options is
beyond my capacity to understand. (Page names are back in 2003 in a
limited fashion after Microsoft see-sawing in 2002).
