how can I insert html code (for a hitcounter) into Word before conversion to Web Page

From a newbie web-page-maker, at least in using Word to make web pages ... is it possible to add a hit counter to a page made in Word and then Save as Web Page? After doing the latter, I see no way to reveal source code or change it (which is my instinctive way of adding hit counter's html code).

Have you tried View> HTML Source after opening an HTML file? Or am I
misunderstanding what you're looking for?

Bob -- this is exactly what I'd like to be able to do, but Word's 'Save as Web Page' converts it to an HTML view that I can use View Page Source (in Camino) or View Source (Safari), but in neither case will it allow me to modify the document ... at least as far as I can tell.

I have the HTML file but I can't find a way to open it any way that allows me to edit the html code.

Camino & Safari are *browsers* - they don't permit editing of anything :)

I was referring to the menu in Word, itself... Or there are any number of
other [better] HTML editors available, such as BBEdit, Tempre, Asbru... Even
TextEdit. Some are commercial, some are free/shareware. For what you want to
do however you'll probably need a decent web authoring program.

You may wish to reflect on the fact that adding a hit counter to a website
pretty much LABELS you as a "newbie web maker" :)

It's right up there with "blinking" and "animated" text as "Things we learn
not to do because they're embarrassing" :)

Ask your ISP to enable Server Logs for you and email them to you each day.

You will gain a lot more information from server logs. Amongst the most
immediately useful are "Who came calling" (so you can filter out the traffic
from the Search Engines. "How long did they stay?" (so you can filter out
the 'click counters' that did not stop to "read" anything on your page) and
"Where did they go next?" (so you can tell which of your sub-pages are
earning their keep, and which could be quietly euthanased).

You won't get any of that from a hit counter.

Hope this helps
