How can I lock an object?

I would like to select certain objects and lock them. (keep them from being
moved or deleted) These objects can be anywhere in the document and can be
text or graphic objects.

Using the protection feature to lock sections of the document won't do
because I don't want a section locked, just the object itself.

You can't lock an object to prevent its deletion. If you right-click and
select Format, you can use the layout options to lock the anchor and to set
the position absolutely. But if the anchor paragraph is deleted, then the
object is deleted also. You can put the anchor paragraph into a locked
section.
