How can I open a file I created in Word that is 500+ MB.

My file with embedded pictures won't open even though it appears in the
folder at 500 Mb. Error message says "trouble opening
file"..."permissions"..."not enough memory". Any ideas on how to open this
behemoth or at least recover text?
