How can I prevent the accidental use of caps lock key?

I have the box checked under Tools but I frequently hit the caps lck key by
accident nd type a whole page that way

The option in Word should turn Caps Lock off as well as correcting the
inverted case. But if that isn't working for you, you can tell Windows to
make a sound whenever you hit Caps Lock (also Num Lock or Scroll Lock, but
those are much less commonly hit by accident).

Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Accessibility Options. Put a check
in the box for "Use ToggleKeys" and click OK. You'll get a high-pitched beep
when Caps Lock turns on, and a lower-pitched beep when it turns off. You may
find that it's worth the annoyance.

In addition to Jay's suggestion, you can use Shift-F3 to toggle between
CAPITALS, First Capital or lower case. This at least frees you from
most overtyping, especially when you like me don't master blind
typing....
