how can i print only what i highlight from a web page?

If by "highlighted areas" you mean the text that you
select with your mouse or the keyboard then use

File>Print>Page Range>Selection.

You can customize your toolbar to include an icon that
opens the print dialog (vice automatically printing the
entire document). Right click an empty area on the menu
bar and choose customize. Drag the existing print icon
off of your toolbar. Click on the commands tab, select
the file category and then scroll down in the commands
category to find Print..., drag and drop this icon on your
toolbar.
