How can I reduce the start time for a self running presentation

D

Daddydog

After I have packaged a presentation for CD, how can I reduce the start time.
At the present time it takes almost two minutes for the presentation to start.

Geetesh Bajaj

For a large presentation, that is normal.

You could copy the presentation to HD to make it speedier.

I have used the Package for CD and the presentation is quite large, 131
slides for a future 50th class reunion, and it gets frustrating to wait two
minutes for it to start. Are you saying that I should copy the Package for
CD to the hard dirve? I am sending it to a file on my C drive and recording
it from there. Is thie wrong way to do it?

How long does it take to start when you run the presentation form your HD?

When you use the Package for CD option. Do not copy to CD. Copy to a folder,
and then use your CD burning software to copy the material to the CD. But
Before you do that if you have any linked files like sound files. Copy all
linked files to the same folder as the presentation BEFORE you insert them
into the presentation This helps ensure that your stuff will work on the
other end. Finally the machine that your playing the CD from is it as
powerful as the machine that the presentation was created on. this sometimes
contributes to the speed at which a presentation will run.

When I ran the presentation from my HD, it took 7 seconds for it to start.
After I have copied the files to a cd, I can run the cd, and I will get the
power point viewer in approximately 6 seconds, but from there, it is almost
two minutes before the presentation starts.
I tried the copy to cd one time, and didn't have any luck, and since then,
have always copied to file, and burned the files from the folder to a cd. I
am using power point 2003, and when I insert sound files, they are embeded
into the presentatin, and are not linked to my computer.

I also have a program that converts the power point presentation, so that I
can put the presentation on dvd's, and so far, the only problem I am having
with that is the synchronizing the audio with the slides. I'll keep working
with that until I get it figured out.

I was thinking that mayby there was a way to re-organize the files so that
the auto-play starts sooner.

Thanks for your response.

It should not take that long to load the presentation from your CD. Yes the
timings will be different from your HD to your CD drive because they run at
different speeds. and synchronizing sound and pictures is not one of
PowerPoint's best features. good luck with that one. Right now the only
suggestion I have is to put all your files into the same folder as your
presentation before you insert them into the presentation

Can I assume there are lot's of images (pictures) in your presentation? In
so have you compressed them in PPT? If not give it a go.

Your assumption is correct, each slide has 2 photos, a black and white and a
color. And there are 131 slides, with only 127 having the 2 photos. And I had
not compressed them, because I didn't know how to do that or was aware of it.
I went to the presentation and checked the compression and do I use the
web/screen option or the print. Surly I wouldn't use the print option. I
started the compression on some of the slides, then thought I had better adk
which option to use.
Thanks for your response..
