I put it in the Programming group for two reasons: 1, there is no
documentation for any similar feature, meaning it probably is _not_ a feature
of Word. The people on the Programming board (as opposed to the Drawing
board) are more likely to know exactly when Word accesses embedded images,
and so even if Word has no feature like the one I'm looking for, you may know
of some trick or inconsistency in Word that I can exploit to trick it into
doing what I want.
To summarize my needlessly long message below, I need to find out how I can
unembed an image from the document file. The embedded copy of it is blurry,
meaning that whenever I paste the image, it's burry.
Here's the long version, if you want to read it...
I am making a database of something from a video game series (Mega Man
Battle Network). I tried recreating several elements of the game in just
black and white (as a monochromatic, 1-bit color bitmap) in Paint, and I'm
now copying and pasting bits and pieces of those bitmaps into Word.
They all copied perfectly. However, three images were inaccurate. So I
fixed their bitmaps in Paint, and then, one by one, I directly replaced the
three bitmaps in Word by selecting each one and pasting the new versions over
it. But there's apparently something wrong with that method; the new
versions appear fuzzy like JPEGs. And now, no matter how I try to paste the
new bitmaps, they appear all fuzzy. The only way I can get them to be clear
is if I change the bitmap; modify a pixel or two and then paste it.
My guess is that this has to do with embedded images. Apparently,
regardless of how the image is copied or what method I use to insert it, when
I insert a bitmap that exactly matches an embedded image, another instance of
the embedded image object is used instead. And, unfortunately, the embedded
image for these three things are all JPEG-like.
Where can I access a list of all the embedded images in a document so I can
remove the problem images, and allow these bitmaps to be reinserted the
proper way? If there is no list, is there some alternative method I can use
to remove them?
Note: Even if all instances of the object are deleted, the bitmap is still
embedded. They are still embedded even after saving the document with 0
instances of them. They're such a nuisance!
