How can I reset "File In Use" flag in Microsoft WORD

M

This is the second time this has happened.
A WORD 2007 file that we keep on our server for access by four users is
saying that we can't open it because it is flagged in use by one of the
users. However, this cannot be because it is the same user that is trying to
open it. She has rebooted her system and the problem remains. The original
file cannot be renamed or deleted because of its current state. How do I get
the flag turned off and why is this happening?

The Windows locking file must be active because the user's PC crashed or for
some other reason the document and/or Word was not close properly. You need
to find and delete all abandoned temp files and you will probably need all
users to be off the server when you do this.
