How can I retreive an archived pst file when I get a message "thi.

1 - I got hit by a virus
2 - a data recovery company rescued the data and put it on a DVD
3 - I have transferred the archive file to the new hard drive
4 - when I try to import the archive file I end up with the message "this
operation failed"

What can I do to retreive the data?

Two things to try:

1. make sure the file isn't set READ ONLY. Files copied to CDR and DVD are
marked that way by the operating system and they must be reset to READ/WRITE
before they can be used.

2. Don't import, go to 'File|Open|Outlook Data file'; if you import, you
will lose rules, custom views, etc.

Great advice. I did file / open and there they were.

Follow up question is how can I now move the archeived email folders from
"archive" to "outlook today".

I am having a similar issue. However, I keep getting the following error:
"The file C:\Docs & Settings\......\archive.pst is not a personal folders
file."
What can I do about that? Will I ever be able to retreive my old email?

Yes I followed what was said above...the file is not marked "read only" and I
have tried putting it in several different locations on the hard drive, but
when I try to open the file it still gives me the error message that
"properties for this information service must be defines prior to use" and
then when I click "ok" on that message the Office Assistant pops up and says
that "the file is not a personal folder file" even though it is clearly a
..pst file. Any suggestions?

Did you run SCANPST on the file? If so and it still gives you the error,
you're screwed.
