how can i retrieve deleted documents on floppy disk

all my documents stored on my floppy disk disapperared last night and a file
conversion encoded language file took its place. i did nothing to my disk
just created another doc and save it. can my original documents be returned?

all the work that vanished is all my college course work and i am very upset.
if anyone knows what has happened please can they help me.
