How can I save a Word document for regluar use as a watermark ?

I have a Word document which contains only a header and a footer (an image at
the top, with text at the foot). I want to be able to be able use it as a
background or watermark for email, but not when I print to (pre-printed)
letterhead paper. Can anyone help ?

I won't elaborate on email (see my .sig ), but for the printing: if
you want to create a template that is used only for that, then format
the contents of header and footer (all must be inline-objects) as
"hidden" (Format | Font), and set display of hidden text on and printing
of hidden text off (Tools | Options | View/Print).

You can turn off the printing of drawing objects (graphics) and put your
footer text in a textbox which is a drawing object.
