How can I send a document to the desktop?

I want to put a message on the desktop as an Icon. Word 2003 has a "send"
list by my desktop is not on it. That's strange, because on my "run command"
I type in "Sendto" and my desktop is listed as one of the options there.

Instead of using File | Send To within the document, open the File | Open
dialog, right-click on the filename, and choose Send To. You'll find
"Desktop (create shortcut)" as one of the options.
