how can i set up automatic email messages with calendar events

I want to send an email that acts like a reminder. For example, if the event
occurs at 3:00PM and the reminder is set for 1 hour, then I will get an email
at 2:00PM. Is this even possible?

account will be deleted without reading.

Would sending an email with the option "Do not deliver before" set
appropriately work?
