How can I set up Speech recognition to listen from CD ROM?

I am interested in creating transcripts of my CDs. Currently I am using Word
2003. Is there a way that I can get the speech recognition function to listen
to the sound coming from the internal CD Rom rather than the external mic?

I don't have any CDs with voice to check this.... however, you can set the
source to be any of several. Right-click the volume control in the system
tray (right end of the task bar) and choose Open Volume Control. In the
volume control object, choose Options - Properties. Set Adjust Volume For to
Recording. Make sure that CD Player has a check by it, and choose OK.
Recording Control should now display. Microphone is probably selected. Click
the CD "Select" item (this will automatically uncheck the Microphone), and
set the volume so that it's not effectively muted.

Now... give it a try and see if it works.

Just tried playing with it... I can't get it to work with a source other
than microphone. However, I put my microphone into my headset and enabled
dictation. At the moment, I'm getting a somewhat amusing transcript of WTOP
radio (which is streaming semi-live over the internet). So, I would guess
that that might be an option for you. If you use a portable CD player, you
could also use a patch cord with plugs on both ends, and route the output
from the CD player directly into the Mic input.
