How can I set up user-defined preferences in Visio 2003?

I need to define a custom set of preferences that Visio can then be
instructed to default to for a particular customer's drawings. How can this
be done?

Thank you.

Hi Monica,

What kind of things do you need to customize?

Visio can be instructed to put a lot of settings in the registry.

I'm not sure if you can put this into one of those Windows
install/deployment scripts (what are they called?) Maybe someone else
can chime in on this - I can't remember what this is called.

As far as default templates, Visio is bad in that it doesn't have the
"Normal.Dot" concept that Word has had for a long time. You can however,
define custom templates (ie: My New Drawing.vst) and even get these to
show up in the File > New menu via various tricks.

But it would help to know exactly what you are trying to do.

Hi Chris,

Yes, it would be great if there were the equivalent of Normal.dot!

I'm working on patent drawings that must meet the USPTO specs or they will
kick 'em back. I did set up a template, but the problem is that it always
defaults to Arial 8pt, a line wt of "03", and a light grey/blue fill whenever
I open it to create a new drawing.

Instead, I want it to default to Arial 12pt, a line wt of "05", and a white
fill.

Thanks!

Ah, OK.

Shapes that you just draw using the drawing and text tools use the
"Normal" style. You can edit this style for a document under the Format
menu.

If you don't see "Define Styles" under the Format menu, then read: "#3,
#4, #5, #6, #7 Menu Items Re-appear" in this article:
