How can I show a cut-away view?

I want to layer shapes, and show a "cut-away" view to the bottom layer. What
is the best way to do it?

Hi Vanice,

There's no easy way to make windows into shapes, or make irregular masks in
Visio. If you place images on a page, you can crop and pan them, which is
similar to what you want, but probably doesn't solve your problem.

You can do some interesting things with the boolean operations - under the
Shape > Operations menu. With Fragment, you can cut shapes up, and with
Union and Combine, you can put bits back together.

I think that in Visio, true cut-away views have to be done the hard way -
actually cutting bits of shapes away. This means you have to be an
illustrator, which is what Visio customers generally don't want to be : )
