Hello all.

I have gotten the small task of trying to figure out how I can, as simply as
possible (obviously), create a document where certain parts of the document
will display, but not print.

The request was for the ability to view certain layout features
(text+pictures) from within the application, but not print it, since the
paper it will eventually be printed on is pre-printed with this information.

I've looked at field-codes (hoping there'd be a "don't print the contents of
this field" sort of switch), and quite a number of other places, without
much luck.

Does anyone have an idea, apart from the Format->Background option, as to
how I'd go about doing something like that ?

Thanks in advance,
Peter Chr. Ryskin

You can format the text that you don't want to print as hidden, and then
print the document without showing the hidden text. This will work for
graphics too. The hidden text in the online document will be underlined with
a dotted line.

To format text as hidden, select the text, click Font on the Format menu,
and then click the Hidden checkbox.

To print a document without showing hidden text, click Print on the File
menu, and then in the Print dialog box, click Options. Under Include with
document, clear the Hidden text checkbox.

To be able to see the hidden text in an online document, you need to set
Word to show hidden text. To do this, click Options on the Tools menu, and
then click Hidden text on the View tab.

Hope this works for you.
