How can I show contacts last name first in tasks?

I'd like to be able to sort my tasks by Contact, but the sort is done on
First Name then Last Name. Any ideas on how to sort by Last Name?

Hi there.

I am happy to try to help you but need some guidance from you as well..

Can you step back and remember that we cannot see your screen. So what we
don't know and you do is:

which version of Outlook?
which View of which Folder are you looking at?
what EXACTLY do you want to be able to do that you can't do the way you are
currently trying to do it?

Using Outlook 2003, in any of the views in which I've selected to display
contacts, (right now I use Simple - filtered to exclude completed tasks) the
contacts are listed First Name then Last Name, so when I sort on that column,
it sorts by first name.

I still have no idea what exactly you want to do or which FOLDER you are in
so it's hard to offer an alternative method. As a guess, how about you show
the First Name and Last Name fields separately and then sort by the one you
want.

The only folder I know to describe where I'm at is tasks -- I don't have any
sub-folders under tasks. I don't know what additional information you need
to describe where I'm at. As I said, I'm in tasks, Simple View and my
columns are: Priority, Due Date, Created Date, Contacts, and Subject. I
don't know how to show last name separate from first in tasks.

Thanks you so now we know that you are in the Tasks folder in the Simple
List view and you seem to know how to add fields to that View.

We also know that you are trying to show a Contacts related field in a Tasks
folder. The issue is that and there are limitations in doing so. You know
them, you have found them - the data will not show when you use a field from
another folder (eg Contacts) and try to show it in an Outlook folder (eg
Tasks).

So the short answer is that I don't have a solution for you. Your method
does not work.

Let's go back to the beginning: What are you trying to achieve by shwoing
contacts in the Tasks folder? Maybe there's another way (maybe not - but
I'm willing to try!)

Thank you so much for your kind resonse. I'm tring to use tasks to manage my
to-do list. I'd like to stress high-priority items first, but be able to
sort by task when the client (contact) calls, so I can easily find what I've
got in process for them. Maybe I'm trying to use outlook when I should be
using a contact management application?

Yes CRM required - you know the answer again!

To do that type of linking effectively, get a CRM system. Outlook has many
add-ins that will do it. Microsoft Business Contacts Manager is one of
them. Do a Google search and you'll find lots of ideas. Good luck.

I don't understand your response. It was possible, in fact very easy, to
show Contacts in Tasks in Outlook 2003. Has Microsoft stripped some of this
functionality from Outlook 2007 because I can't seem to make it do the same
thing.
