How can I speed up Word's opening time?

I use Word 2003 and it is becoming more and more painful to watch Word
struggle through 20-30 seconds of initialization every time I open it. I'm
beginning to wonder if I should create a new normal template or get rid of
Woody's WOPR utilities for Word. I've had WOPR for two years but I can't help
but think that with all of the Office updates since I installed WOPR that it
could be becomming a burden.

I'd appreciate any
suggestions.

Thanks,

Dan

Add-ins are always suspect when performance degrades, so I definitely
wouldn't rule that out. You might want to remove it & see if that helps or
at least see if there is an update for the utility.

There are other considerations as well - such as the condition of the hard
drive. How much free space, how badly fragmented?

Thanks for your reply,

I was surfing around in my Office files looking for a problematic template
when I ran accross "C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\OFFICE11\MACROS\SUPPORT.DOT". I followed the instructions on how to
rebuild my "normal.dot" global template and all was well. The WOPR addins
weren't the problem. The only settings that I had to restore were the font
that I usually use.
The only explanation that I can come up with is that there was an addin
that I had uninstalled but was still being called somehow, that was bogging
things down.

Thanks again.
