how can i stop a sound in a presentation

i want to play 10 pieces of music, one after the other on one slide, each
starting and stopping in turn on my click. I follow all the instructions on
how to stop a sound but the music keeps playing over the next one! Help!

Which instructions did you follow??

Check that the stop playing action is set to ON CLICK (double click the
entry in Animation Pane and choose "Effect" or alternatively set up the
animation pane like this.

sound A Play (with after previous)
sound A Stop (On Click)
Sound B Play (after previous)
Sound B Stop (on click) etc
