How can I stop Internet Explorer from creating URL attachments?

Is there any way to prevent or subsequently remove the .url attachment
created when using the "Send Link by E-Mail" command in Internet Explorer?

One of my correspondents has third-party blocking on his company server,
which blocks the ENTIRE message, not just the attachment.
